How we work
We look at the whole problem. Developing intelligence has multiple aspects - from curating data mixtures, to running different learning algorithms and managing infrastructure on large GPU clusters, to evaluation. We expect each team member to have eyes on and contribute to how intelligence is created end-to-end.
Research and Engineering together. The line between a research insight and an engineering breakthrough is blurry, and we like it that way. Our team members are thinkers and builders who take ideas from conception to implementation.
Agency and Responsibility. Research and development can be unpredictable. We expect (and help) every team member to develop enough agency to be capable of navigating ambiguity and finding a path forward for the domains they own.
The Role: Technical Staff, Superintelligence
We are seeking exceptional researchers and engineers to join our core team in building general superintelligence. This is not an incremental role. You will be directly responsible for developing and training LLMs at a massive scale, often exceeding 400B parameters.
You will engage with all aspects of AI research and engineering, including developing novel RL algorithms, designing data pipelines, conducting experiments, evaluating models, and working with our distributed training and inference infrastructure.
The ideal candidate possesses a rare and critical trait: a deep, hard-won intuition for what works in large-scale AI. This is usually developed by hands-on training of LLMs and/or by following the relevant literature in this space. While direct experience in pretraining, multi-node training, RL, and data curation is a significant plus, we welcome candidates willing to upskill in these domains.

Location
We are based in San Francisco. You can choose to work remotely or in the office, but will need to come to SF a few times a year. Note that we do have a strong preference for candidates based in the Bay Area or willing to relocate here, even for remote work.
